Viktor & Rolf x Aubade: Comfort Half Cup Bra 34G

Viktor & Rolf x Aubade: Comfort Half Cup Bra 34G

You know when you see something for the first time, but you know immediately that you just have to own it? That’s what the Viktor & Rolf x Aubade collection was for me. Their initial imagery that was released last year completely took my breath away with their pretty signature bows combined with sheer mesh. It was very much my style and, even though I was pregnant at the time and didn’t know where my size would end up, I was willing to take that risk.

I struggled to figure out where I could purchase the collection, but luckily Claudia May Lingerie put out some information about the sets including the fact that they would be taking preorders for them, so I jumped at the chance. So back in February, just a week before my due date, I put down my deposit on the set I wanted and waited with great anticipation for them to arrive so I could pay the rest and have the set in my hands.

Luckily those months flew by, all thanks to having a brand new tiny life to look after, and in mid-June, I received the email I’d been awaiting to say it was here and all they needed was my final payment. This is the first time I’ve ever preordered an item like this

I was provided with a blogger discount from Claudia May Lingerie when purchasing this set, but I was under no obligation to provide a review.

Shape & Appearance

The Bow collection by Aubade is an extra special one comprising of 9 pieces in collaboration with fashion house Viktor & Rolf. Featuring Viktor & Rolf’s signature bows in laser cut embroidery set against a backdrop of striking “BonBon” candy pink sheer mesh and scalloped garlands of dots, with additional flat satin bows adorning the bra and briefs, this set is a total overload of cute and I love it. The bold pink colour is just as bright and fun in real life as it is on the screen, and the bows are just oh-so-cute.

Viktor & Rolf x Aubade: Comfort Half Cup Bra 34G

Here I’m wearing the Comfort Half Cup bra with the Brazilian brief in the BonBon colour scheme. This bra is designed for a fuller bust, from 30-40 bands and E-G cups, whereas the majority of the collection fits smaller cup sizes.

The half cup bra has a fairly low cut neckline across the breast with a single vertical seam. This cup gives an excellent pushed up shape on my full on top to even breast type with a wonderful “cakes on a plate” cleavage. The band is longer than a standard bra but not quite longline, and it has a thick band elastic around the bottom – this really appealed to me as it stands out from other bra designs.

The back of the bra is also beautifully designed, with straps that divide at the mid-shoulder to connect in two places on either side to the band. Not only does this feel really comfortable, but it also looks lovely. I love a well thought out back view design in lingerie as it shows how much has gone into the planning for a set like this.

The brief is standard of a Brazilian style with a bikini look at the front with the bow motif on tulle and a cheeky fit on pink satin at the back. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure why I chose this style over the “St Tropez” style which is more a boyshort look as I know that I’m never all that comfortable wearing Brazilian briefs, but I do very much love the look of them.

Size, Fit & Comfort

I chose the Comfort Half Cup bra specifically over the others in the collection for one big reason – it came in a 34G. I was unsure as to where my bra size might end up at the end of pregnancy, but I was also having to guess what might happen once my milk came in and I’d been breastfeeding for a few months already, plus I wanted the set to be able to somewhat fit me in future once I’ve stopped breastfeeding too. Yep, that’s a tall order!
So when I put in the order towards the end of pregnancy, I was wearing around a 34H. Pre-pregnancy, I was a 28GG. I figured that I was hardly going to end up being much smaller than a 34G cup, but my band size was likely to drop back down again. Unfortunately a G cup was the biggest the brand go, so I thought I’d better go with the 34G so that at the very least, the cups might fit but the band would be too big. And that seems to be just about right!
At 4 months postpartum, I’m currently wearing around a 32H most days, but I could quite likely comfortably fit a 30 band – so a 30HH would be my optimal size. Generally I’m quite happy in my 32 bands right now in terms of comfort though, plus I don’t want to invest in lots of varied sized nursing bras that I might only wear for a few more months.

Anyway! The 34G in this bra isn’t a perfect fit, but I didn’t expect it to be so it’s okay with me. The cups are a bit small and the band is a bit big, but for the occasional “ooh, pretty thing” wear that the bra is currently getting, it works. Sadly it can’t be much more than a pretty thing on me very occasionally right now as I’m exclusively breastfeeding (anyone have any tips on getting a expert bottle refuser to take anything except breast?!) and it definitely doesn’t work for that, and I’d be wary to wear it with the too small cups at the moment as the wires would be pressing on breast tissue and thus putting me at a higher risk of mastitis – something I’m very keen to avoid after hearing a lot about how horrible it can be!
I am slowly losing breast volume over time though as I continue to breastfeed. I was up to around a 32J when my milk came in and just put up with stretchy sleep style bras and, like I said, I’m now usually wearing a 32H comfortably. I think I’ve got further to drop, and hopefully I’ll be back to a similar-ish size to pre-pregnancy at some point, although I’m really hoping that I’ll be a bit more consistently a 30 band as those are definitely easier to get hold of! So my thought is that in future, I should be able to fit the cups of this bra a lot more comfortably, even if the band is a bit big!

Why Every Woman Needs a Half Slip in Her Wardrobe

Why Every Woman Needs a Half Slip in Her Wardrobe

Nylon stocking sizes are crucially important.  It is far too easy to buy pin up 1950s fashion nylons only to find you have bought the wrong size.  Making all the right choices before you purchase will ensure you are not disappointed afterwards.  The first thing you really need to know is that stocking nylon is not the same as the nylon you would find on other garments, like panties or a slip.  Stocking nylon is 100% pure nylon in true vintage stockings and has no stretch properties whatsoever and, as such, can be quite uncomfortable if you get the size wrong.

If you are intending to buy authentic vintage nylon stockings it is important to know more about the term ‘Fully Fashioned’ (FF) and what that actually means.  Here are some fully fashioned facts:

  • A lot of people think that ‘Fully Fashioned’ just refers to the seam that is visible at the back of each leg.  It actually doesn’t.  Having a seam on your stockings is just where the flat-knit ‘fully fashioned’ nylon fabric was joined at the back.  To be truly authentic, that seam must be a join – some seams are just sewn-in ‘fake’ mock seams.  So, to think that the only stockings that can be called ‘fully fashioned’ are those with a seam and contrasting heel is a myth.  Seamless stockings can be fully fashioned too.
  • ‘Fully Fashioned’ actually refers to the natural shape of the leg.  Let me explain.  Because true, authentic pure nylon stockings have no stretch in them at all, manufacturers had to make them in the exact shape of the leg so that they fit snugly and didn’t ‘sag’ in places.  They were perfectly ‘fashioned‘ to the shape of the leg so that they fit neatly around all parts of the leg.  They had to, remember.  If they didn’t, the nylon fabric in some areas would sag while in others they would be too tight.  The stocking should fit neatly around the whole of your leg without sagging or creasing, although a subtle tiny ripple of looseness at the arch of the foot is actually considered fashionably chic in some quarters.
  • With Fully Fashioned (FF) nylon stockings, leg length is actually more important than foot size when it comes to comfort while wearing.  One of the things you must do first of all is to know your leg length because good quality nylon stockings come in different leg lengths, eg: size 10 short; size 10 medium; size 10 long, etc.
  • The alternative to Fully Fashioned seamed stockings are seamless ‘Regular’ stockings that are  knitted over cone-shaped moulds.  As I said, these don’t have seams because they don’t need seams as they are knitted as a big conical ‘tube’ – although a manufacturer could add a ‘mock’ seam just for effect.  This method of manufacture is slightly more forgiving when it comes to sizing, especially since in later years they started adding stretchy Lycra to the nylon mix.  Because these circular spun stockings have a kind of ‘one shape fits all’ idea they will never fit and look as good as vintage fully fashioned nylons.  Watch out for that, as they are not really truly authentic nylons in the vintage sense.

Are Nylon Stockings Fun and Comfortable to Wear?

Yes, nylon stockings can be both fun and comfortable to wear. Their sleek look goes well with any outfit, while their soft nylon fabric helps keep you feeling comfortable throughout the day.  Yes, nylon stockings can be both fun and comfortable to wear. Their sleek look goes well with any outfit, while their soft fabric helps keep you feeling comfortable throughout the day. With sheer, lightweight designs and a range of fashionable colors, there’s no denying that nylon stockings are a great wardrobe addition. Nylon stockings have been a fashion staple for decades, as they not only offer a sleek and stylish look, but are also fun and comfortable to wear.  Nylon stockings are easy to care for, maintain their color over time, and make the perfect addition to any outfit!

The Denier scale is an important factor for those wanting stockings. It’s a French term used to measure the thickness of the thread, and refers to one gram for every nine thousand metres. Sheer stockings or tights have a denier count of 7, which is so light that it almost disappears on the leg. For those after more durability, stockings over 20-denier are opaque; whereas those between 10-20 are still transparent whilst being more resistant. For a balance between wearability and sexiness, 15-denier is the most popular option.

Seamed or Seamless Stockings – What’s Best?  The Pros and Cons of Seamed vs. Seamless Stockings.

Whether you choose seamed or seamless stockings depends heavily on personal preference. Seamed stockings are often thought to be of higher quality and more durable, while seamless stockings tend to fit better and provide a smoother look under clothing. Ultimately, it comes down to individual choice.  Seamed stockings offer a more traditional, vintage look, but seamless stockings are becoming increasingly popular for their sleek and modern look. The choice between the two ultimately comes down to personal preference, as both kinds of stockings can provide comfort and style.

Is This Thing Still On?

Is This Thing Still On?

Knock knock, anyone home?!

It’s been, ahem, 5 years since we posted on BCLC thanks to a combination of lockdown, baby(/ies), big work successes, and just life in general getting in the way. But we thought it might finally be time to revive this old thing!

The new BCLC may not be quite the same as it used to be. Like I said, we’ve both got a lot more committments in our lives nowadays than we had a few years back. For me (Sian) though, I’ve been missing this little corner of the internet to share my thoughts on lingerie and bra fitting journey, as it is still quite a journey!

Char is super busy with life right now, so at the moment, the posts are primarily going to be Big Cup and more general lingerie focused, although I’m sure we can persuade her to pop in and say hello, along with some other guest cups from time to time to get a good overview of the bra world at the current time.

A sneak peek of an upcoming review – an old bra, but a pretty one!

So why am I finally back?!

When I left you in 2019, Emmy was just a few months old so life was hectic, but I was also wearing approximately 3 bras on rotation as I was feeding her, and finding nursing bras in an H cup is tricky! You’d very quickly get tired of seeing me feature those 3 very tired bras over and over again! I also lost a bit of interest in the lingerie world as I knew that I wouldn’t be purchasing or wearing any of the beautiful pieces I was seeing across the internet, so honestly, I just stopped looking.

So it probably started as a bit of a break with all good intentions to come back once life calmed down, but unfortunately life didn’t calm down in the slightest – not when March 2020 came along! Emmy turned 1 right as lockdown hit. I’d been back at work after maternity for around 6 months at this point, but with most of my team furloughed, there was a suddenly a huge workload on my shoulders, along with no childcare – we were lucky however that my husband was furloughed for part of it, so he ended up spending valuable time with Emmy! At this point, not only was BCLC forgotten, but my personal blog that I’d been running since 2010 was abandoned too. It’s only in the past few months that I’ve somewhat revived that too!

And it’s taken that long because in 2021, just as lockdown was coming to an end, our little boy Archie came along! Now this is a lingerie blog so I won’t go all in on the details, but where Emmy was a textbook baby, let’s just say Archie wasn’t! He’s now just about to turn 3 and life is getting slightly easier – aside from the 2-3 wake ups every night still, but that’s our life nowadays! But life with a velcro allergy baby with severe reflux, along with a toddler, doesn’t leave a lot of room for blogging!

But like I said, I’ve been missing this world, and I have a lot of thoughts to share. I stopped feeding Archie last summer, which was lucky as I was down to just 2 nursing bras at that point! But this meant my size suddenly started changing again, as has my breast shape/composition – it’s very different nowadays, so my reviews will likely change a lot! As a quick breakdown, here’s how my size/shape has changed in the past few years – it might be useful if you’re feeding a baby, are a similar size and shape to me and would like to get an idea of what your future might look like!

Early 2021: Feeding Emmy, then pregnant with Archie. I still had a pretty rounded and full breast shape and was wearing around a 32H in nursing bras.

Late 2021: Heavily pregnant with Archie, wearing a 34H most of the time.

2022/23: I had 3 nursing bras on rotation in a 32HH and 34H – I had 2 Hotmilk bras and the Freya Pure.

Mid 2023: I stopped feeding Archie and my size and shape started changing, as I thought it might – it was the first time in 5 years that I wasn’t pregnant or feeding a baby (or both!). I lost a lot of density in my breast tissue – hooray! Or at least hooray to start with – I’ve always had very dense, heavy breast tissue so it was literally a weight off my back! I was wearing a 32H for around 8 months between summer 2023 and early 2024 after having a quick fitting in Bravissimo.

2024: Ben and I started a new health journey – more about this on my main blog soon, but we basically just cut out all ultra processed food (UPF), which led to me losing a bit of weight, and the bra size changed along with that! Within 3 months, the 32Hs were gaping, so I’m now, after another fitting at Bravissimo in summer, currently wearing either a 32GG or 32G depending on the bra itself. I’m around the same dress size and weight as I was in the earlier days of BCLC, but then my bra size was a 28G/GG, so that’s interesting! I’m pretty comfortable in the 32G/GG size range right now. I think I could do with a 30GG, but I do like the fact that 32 bands are more mainstream, and honestly, they’re comfy enough for me right now! My breast tissue is a LOT softer than it used to be, and where I used to have a full on top shape, I’m more full on the bottom nowadays. This means that plunge bras aren’t as well suited to my shape.

So where do we go from here?

I’ve got a few new bras I can show you in the coming weeks/months. Who knows how often I’ll post – it may be weeks in between, so you’ll have to bear with me, but I’ll do my best!

If there’s anything you specifically want to know about, give me a shout and I’ll see what I can do. I’m excited to be back and to get my words back on the page/screen again!

The Magic of Flirt: Inside Minnesota’s Most Charming Lingerie Boutique

The Magic of Flirt: Inside Minnesota’s Most Charming Lingerie Boutique

Flirt Boutique interview featured on Lingerie BriefsBy ASI EFROS

In this episode of Intimate Talks, Jessica Gerard — the owner of Flirt Boutique — speaks candidly about the “good vibe” her store is known for: a magic that comes from authentic connection, great service, and a touch of play. She also shares invaluable insights for emerging lingerie brands on how to approach, communicate with, and successfully sell to intimate apparel specialty stores.

THE MAGIC OF FLIRT BOUTIQUE - Intimate Talks Interview Series - Asi Efros & Jessica Gerard

Flirt is known for its curated selection of lingerie — but more than that, it’s known for how it makes people feel. Jessica has built a space where women feel seen, supported, and celebrated. It’s a place to buy something beautiful, yes — but also a place to share stories and have a moment of fun.

Flirt Boutique interview featured on Lingerie Briefs

Jessica opened Flirt in 2008 on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul, Minnesota. A year later, she moved the boutique to the corner of Selby and Snelling — a busy stretch in a growing neighborhood. Over the next decade, Flirt popped up in the North Loop and even the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport. In 2020, she relocated the flagship store to Edina, where it continues to charm and surprise.

Flirt Boutique interview featured on Lingerie Briefs

Flirt Boutique carries lines from all over the world — Aubade, Lise Charmel, Fleur du Mal, Natori, Journelle, and others — with new arrivals weekly. Most styles are one piece per size, with no reorders. “The collection is always evolving,” Jessica says, which keeps the experience fresh and personal. Band sizes range from 30 to 42, with cups from A to G. The store also offers loungewear, European hosiery, jewelry, bath products, and playful gifts for bachelorettes or weekends away.

But what sets Flirt apart isn’t just what’s on the shelves — it’s how customers are treated. Jessica and her team know lingerie shopping can feel vulnerable. Some people arrive unsure of their size, uncomfortable in their bodies, or carrying past negative experiences. The staff meets them with kindness, honesty, and joy. Fit guidance is quick and relaxed, and opinions are shared with care.

Jessica Gerard — the owner of Flirt Boutique featured on Lingerie Briefs

Jessica’s optimism and warmth run through every part of the experience. The boutique specializes in classic silhouettes inspired by Old Hollywood — a blend of sexy and sweet that appeals to both Gen Z romantics and longtime lingerie lovers. The décor features walls in “Marry Me Pink,” antique furniture, rugs, and mirrors. The energy is upbeat, and on Saturdays, there’s champagne. It’s not just about bras — it’s about how someone walks out the door.

“Customers leave feeling a bit fancier… a bit flirtier… which is the whole idea,” says Jessica.

Cleo Faith Strapless Bra Review: 32H

Cleo Faith Strapless Bra Review: 32H

Let’s try and remember how to do this thing!

One of the first new bras I bought at the beginning of this year when my size started to settle down somewhat was this one: a strapless bra. That might seem like a strange choice and not really one that’s a priority, however I’d just invested in a few tops that were scoop neck and off the shoulder, which meant that if I didn’t want bra straps on show, I didn’t have much of a choice.

I’ve had a couple of strapless bras in the past including the Curvy Kate Luxe which was good but not the best fit for me – it was too shallow and meant I got a strange sort of push up effect that was too visible – and the Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless. The latter was my favourite strapless bra, but it had something of a bulkiness to it, and it sat pretty low on my ribcage which was a strange feeling if it was for a long day’s wear.

So this time I decided to try another DD+ strapless bra, and the Cleo Faith popped up in my searches. Here’s how I got on with the Cleo Faith Moulded Strapless Bra (You’ll have to excuse any inconsistencies with my photography – I’m shooting on a phone after my camera broke a couple of years ago, and I’m a bit out of practice now!)

Shape & Appearance

I chose the Latte shade of the Cleo Faith bra which is a pretty close to my skin tone. I’ve worn it under a couple of white jersey tops where the material is quite thin and it doesn’t show through, although I do notice that I can see the top edge of the cup at times.

The cups are entirely moulded with a very rounded, smooth shape. This plays in favour of the bra over the other two strapless bras I’ve tried where they were pretty, but had more detailing on the cups. The fabric is described as a semi sheen recycled microfibre. For a functional bra, which I consider this to be, it works perfectly. It isn’t totally plain though as it has a little silver ring decorating the gore.

The shape is closer to a plunge than a balconette, the gore is pretty low at the front. The bra also comes with detachable straps, which is a nice touch, but I haven’t actually used them once!

As I’m sure you can see, it is wired, but the bra also has boning at the sides and has silicon elastic around the inner edges of the band to help hold it in place throughout the day.

Size, Fit & Comfort

I bought the Cleo Faith Strapless Bra in a 32H, which is technically a cup size up from what I would consider my standard size at the moment – 32GG. At the time of purchase, I was wearing a 32H but thinking they were feeling just a smidge too big, but the 32GG was out of stock, so I went for the 32H anyway. I’m glad I did size up as the 32GG would have been too small, especially at the time of purchase.

While at first glance, the fit doesn’t look too bad for a strapless bra, take a look more closely at the images, specifically the bottom of the cup. There is a whole section of empty space where the cup folds in on itself. I’d imagine this is because the cups are too shallow for my breast shape which is still very projected. It doesn’t look great, but honestly, it’s not too much of a concern for me as the bra still stays in place – I wore it for 8 hours walking around Disney one day and it was plenty comfy enough!

As I said, the cups are moulded, which with my current breast shape, is more tricky for me than it used to be. Moulded cup bras often have a very globe-like shape. This worked for me well in the past when I had a rounded, firm shape. Nowadays my tissue is a lot of softer and more malleable – this means it does move to fit the cups, but also moves into (and out of!) the centre of the cups sometimes. You can see here that I am experiencing a good amount of cleavage from the bra, but if I jiggle around a lot – a test which must be done on a strapless as it might be worn for dancing! – then I do get this effect.

Like I said, I wore this bra for an entire day in Disney, and I also wore it as a bridesmaid from around midday to beyond midnight, and it held firm for all of that too! So as a strapless bra goes, it’s a win in my books. However I would still love to find that unicorn that I need – a strapless bra with deeper cups! Tricky in terms of construction I’d imagine, but maybe one day!

Raine & Bea Relaunches: Introducing the New Diffusion Collection

Raine & Bea Relaunches: Introducing the New Diffusion Collection

By Estelle Puleston

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsBased in Manchester, UK, the Raine & Bea lingerie brand was created by Jenna Barnes, whose career background includes a long stint working in West End theatre productions as well as once sewing backstage for Celine Dion.

Originally launched in 2013, and with its own boutique store that opened in 2018, Raine & Bea temporarily closed down following the pandemic and a break for maternity leave. But it has since reopened its doors and, last month, relaunched online with a brand new diffusion collection.

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsAptly titled “Encore”, this new range marks a shift away from the brand’s earlier focus on more exclusive, high-price point pieces and one-off creations, to now much more accessible pricing in the region of £17 to £70 (approximately $23 to $95). The pricing may be lower and the garments a little less glitzy, but Raine & Bea’s signature touch still shines through in the form of retro girdles, sheer contoured slip dresses and bodystockings, and details such as the use of sparkling gold for embroidered logos.

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsFor me, the standout range from the Encore collection is Showstopper. The most classically ‘Raine & Bea’ in style, this is where you’ll find the pieces with the most obvious outerwear-styling potential, including a fabulous sheer lace catsuit with harness detailing at the back that incorporates suspender grip hardware. (see above)

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsThere are also sheer, mini-length slip dresses – one in plain black mesh, the other in leopard print – with an off-shoulder silhouette, and my personal favorite piece from the entire collection, a longer dress in sheer lace. I’d wear this over a silk slip in a contrasting color, but you could also do nude or even just an opaque bra set!

Wardrobe Mistresses meanwhile merges modern with retro, offering a girdle, corselette and full brief with suspenders alongside simple balconettes and a very contemporary-looking garter belt with an incorporated leg harness.

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsSpotlight focuses on easygoing, sheer bra sets in leopard print mesh or black with contrasting straps; Pillow Talk is one for lovers of wirefree comfort, feminine style, and longline bralettes; Curtain Call consists of cute push-up bra sets in heart-patterned stretch lace; and Bubble Blush is a range of polka dot mesh-topped satin bottoms with little frills and a slight Burlesque vibe.

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsFinally, there’s the glam-meets-athleisure range also named Encore, which is very much designed for lounging in a mix of soft jersey and sheer geometric lace, all detailed with shimmering gold logo elastics. It includes wide-legged lounge pants and long-sleeved crop tops, once again offering a way to easily incorporate Raine & Bea into your everyday wardrobe.

Raine & Bea Lingerie as featured on Lingerie BriefsRaine & Bea’s new collection is manufactured in Turkey at a factory that meets its ethical working standards, and is available in sizes S-XL and US bra sizes 32-36 B-G.
