Nylon stocking sizes are crucially important. It is far too easy to buy pin up 1950s fashion nylons only to find you have bought the wrong size. Making all the right choices before you purchase will ensure you are not disappointed afterwards. The first thing you really need to know is that stocking nylon is not the same as the nylon you would find on other garments, like panties or a slip. Stocking nylon is 100% pure nylon in true vintage stockings and has no stretch properties whatsoever and, as such, can be quite uncomfortable if you get the size wrong.
If you are intending to buy authentic vintage nylon stockings it is important to know more about the term ‘Fully Fashioned’ (FF) and what that actually means. Here are some fully fashioned facts:
Are Nylon Stockings Fun and Comfortable to Wear?
Yes, nylon stockings can be both fun and comfortable to wear. Their sleek look goes well with any outfit, while their soft nylon fabric helps keep you feeling comfortable throughout the day. With sheer, lightweight designs and a range of fashionable colors, there’s no denying that nylon stockings are a great wardrobe addition. Nylon stockings have been a fashion staple for decades, as they not only offer a sleek and stylish look, but are also fun and comfortable to wear. The Denier scale is an important factor for those wanting stockings. It’s a French term used to measure the thickness of the thread, and refers to one gram for every nine thousand metres. Sheer stockings or tights have a denier count of 7, which is so light that it almost disappears on the leg. For those after more durability, stockings over 20-denier are opaque; whereas those between 10-20 are still transparent whilst being more resistant. For a balance between wearability and sexiness, 15-denier is the most popular option.
Seamed or Seamless Stockings – What’s Best? The Pros and Cons of Seamed vs. Seamless Stockings.
Whether you choose seamed or seamless stockings depends heavily on personal preference. Seamed stockings are often thought to be of higher quality and more durable, while seamless stockings tend to fit better and provide a smoother look under clothing. Ultimately, it comes down to individual choice. Seamed stockings offer a more traditional, vintage look, but seamless stockings are becoming increasingly popular for their sleek and modern look. The choice between the two ultimately comes down to personal preference, as both kinds of stockings can provide comfort and style.

In this overview of the August 2025 NY Lingerie Trade Shows, I decided to whittle down the presentation to a merchandising perspective: the macro vision that is/will drive sales. For me, the message was loud and clear, Tariffs, Joy and Pajamas. And Sheerness led design.
Carole Coelho
I didn’t focus on one color because joyous colors prevailed throughout the shows, and dynamic prints were everywhere. The entire palette was festive, counter intuitive to the current cultural buzz. And Pajamas still hold the sleepwear business hostage, variation on fabrics being the differential. Of course there were the usual suspects, anchor brands with interesting design updates. As expected, the French served up extraordinary embroideries. Italians made their elegant presence known. Classic lingerie design elements remained front and center: beautiful laces, precious details, expert tailoring motifs and excellence in fit
Be Appeeling
Less brands were on display, but the brands to whom I spoke were pleased with the business. Traffic seemed down, but shoppers were focused. There were fewer new players. However, two in particular struck a nerve with me. Tusq, a body image booster for Men, is a shaping solution for men who think their clothes shrunk in the wash. And, a product that has never been in my wheelhouse, a pastie, body jewelry brand, Be Appeeling, which was the most creative thing I saw.
Tusq
I questioned everyone I met about the impact of tariffs. The response was relatively universal. The unknown rules. Wait and see prevails. Most are considering compromise, sharing the pricing burden with stores. Some raised prices this Fall so the process has already begun. It’s pretty clear that the impact won’t trickle down to consumers until later in 2026.
I didn’t photograph everything, which doesn’t mean that a brand wasn’t relevant. When mining a venue, I prefer to read the room from what dominates my view.

By ESTELLE PULESTON
One of the indie lingerie brands high up on my wishlist, Seelanii Lingerie is a one-woman handmade brand created in 2020 by Kristen Fernandes. Working out of her home studio in Poland, she creates luxuriously artisanal underpinnings that range from decadent silk and lace sets to whimsical pieces in hand-embroidered linen.
Fernandes is a self-taught seamstress who started learning to sew and embroider by hand aged just 6, gradually moving onto more complicated techniques and garments in her teens. Naturally drawn to creating lingerie – which she likens to being a pastry chef, saying that intimates are “like dessert for the eyes – sweet, small and detailed” – she eventually learned how to make a bra through trial, error, and deconstructing a few to see exactly how they were made.
“I am a very technical person,” she told me, “I love the challenges that come with designing things that are so complicated to construct but also need to be beautiful and functional.” The idea for Seelanii came about once she had developed the confidence and skillset to work with high-end fabrics such as silk and Leavers lace, which she began sourcing from small local businesses.
Many Seelanii fabrics – most of which are made in Europe – are purchased deadstock and in small quantities, which makes the brand’s collections strictly limited edition. Typically, just 20 to 50 pieces get made. For Fernandes, this keeps the process feeling fresh and enjoyable, rather than having to sew the same thing over and over for years. Plus, she just likes the idea of only a few people owning them! Her ambitions are to stay quality-over-quantity, and maintain that close connection she currently has with her customers.
This is one of those captivating lingerie brands where every single look feels truly special, but a few particular stand-outs include the Elizabeth basque with its frilly arched cut and ruched silk garter straps, the 3-piece Elizabeth lingerie set which incorporates the same ruffled silhouette only this time in powder pink silk satin and with strings of pearls between the bra cups, and the berry-red Jagoda basque set with its double-layered silk and Chantilly lace fabrication and silk-wrapped closure straps at the back.
Most unique of all however are the linen sets. Although it took some testing to land on shapes that would work well with this atypical underwear fabric (which Fernandes describes as “rustic yet elegant”), the designs she settled on are simply dreamy. Breezy tap pants, adding an even airier feel to something already highly breathable. A versatile demi bra hand-embroidered with summery ribbons of poppies, rye and forget me nots. And my very favorite: a longline bustier, hand-embroidered with Queen Ann’s Lace flowers, which could easily be worn as a chic summer crop top.
Seelanii’s linen is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, undyed for a natural ecru color, and perfect for those who care about biodegradability. (Garments also all ship in sustainable plastic-free packaging.) The hand embroidery work is done by fellow artisan Małgorzata Sztuka.
Seelanii Lingerie is priced from 272-1,199 PLN, approximately $75 to $330, and is available from 30 to 40 bands and AA to G cups. All items are made to order and custom sizing is also available on request, as well as fit-test garments for a small fee which are assembled from scrap materials to check the fit before you place your final order. Additionally, bespoke orders are a possibility, including giving one of your garments a new life as a lingerie set.
